I think I know how the general process goes, but any pointers on what to do for textures/overlays and those fancy lighting effects (filters?) you use?

And Kai- effects and lighting and whatnot can be done in a lot of different ways ^^. Brushes, layer properties and illumination tools are just some of what you can do. It depends what image design software you have ^^. |

Photoshop (got it since I do a lot of work on Dreamweaver and Flash). Suppose that means anything you do on GIMP and vice versa is probably applicable.

Sure ^^ Most of it is applicable yeah. You may have a few tools or whatnot that GIMP doesn't or vice versa but for the majority it's applicable. My best advice would be to find someone on the forum who also uses Photoshop and ask them if you have any specific problems. But if you want nice effects I would definitely recommend brushes and layer properties as your best bet, as well as just messing around with a paint brush and then distorting the layer you've splashed with the thing ^^ it can lead to interesting results.
I'll let wandercrest explain how she works with hers though, as the above is just me ^^. |

It wasn't a bad sig :C I feel lucky I didn't point that rather...interesting Germany sig XD; I generally use textures with gimp, i'll use about 6 or 7 different textures on a sig, blended or set to a lighter opacity for it to work. I'll add brushwork over them but generally i'll use a lot of textures. I'll also duplicate the main stock layer and use a guassian blur set to 20 (on gimp) and it gives it a nice look. You drag the blurred layer behind the non blurred one and lower the opacity on the blurred, and if you want a nice change lower the opacity on the non blurred layer too!  /rambles |

They ttly aren't Jenn! I don't make obvious spelling errors! ;-; With the Len sig I probably edited the lyrics a little to suit me more! I tend to do that! I usually raid deviant art or if you google search textures on either livejournal or google you can strike gold! On that note, Faye you linked me to a textures site a while back, would you still have the link for it? |

I find mine via google too. Just remember to specify photoshop in your search or you'll end up downloading something wrong lol. I downloaded a load of brushes once and wondered why they wouldn't work until I realised that they were PSP brushes and I was trying to use them on GIMP lol. Totally didn't work lol. |
