So, last week the first part of Durarara! was released on sub-only DVD over here, and after hearing a lot of people talking about it, I've started to check it out on CrunchyRoll.
Well, so far I'm up to episode 6, and honestly, I don't know what to think. It's a very odd mix of what you expect at first to be a slice-of-life series, but then throws up in some supernatural elements. The first episode was a bit busy, and introduced a lot of characters very fast, but the subsequent episodes have done a pretty good job of giving some background on the different characters.
So, I haven't been put off yet, and am gonna keep watching it as it's pretty unique compared to any other series I've watched, but I honestly have no real idea where the theme or story is going with this one.
So, anyone else watching it? What do you think?

I started watching it recently, though I'm only up to episode 3 at the moment. I like it quite a lot, though I think I preferred the series Baccano!, which is made by the same people as Durarara! It's less slice-of-life, and more immortal gangsters in Prohibition era America seinen.

Baccano! is also notable for possibly being the only anime better dubbed than subbed (imo).

As blasphemous as it is, I haven't watched Cowboy Bebop, but that's meant to have a better dub than sub, and NGE is meant to be on par I believe (though I have NGE dubbed, not subbed).
Anyways, back to Durarara!, I noticed that it was by the same people as Baccano and Darker Than Black, as Shizuo is standing outside a cinema in one episode and there are posters for both of those in the background. I definitely plan to give them both a watch after this.
I watched episodes 6 and 7 this morning, and the plot is starting to come together now. The last few episodes have been really good at introducing the characters and slowly putting it all together.

Oh God, Durarara!! is beautiful and I love it. There... is not a single character that I dislike. (although Izaya's a dick and Namie can get annoying, I love them for it..!)
So many plot twists towards the end - man, it's beautiful, and so /clever/, definitely keep watching :'D

I have watched all of Durarara!! and I loved it. Though I love it more now that I found out that it was made by the same people as Darker then Black (I happen to be waiting for the 2nd ep of the 2nd session to load right now!) I also happen to know that Durarara started out as a novel series and that the first session of the anime only covers about 3 books out of around 7 so there may be more to come.

Agreed on the confusing introduction of characters - it's kinda helpful to have them named in the intro sequence though
