Venue Update

Hey everyone!

I have some good news and I have some bad news so I'll just deal them out asap... ^^"

The bad news is:
EACON will not be running in 2012. The venue we were hoping to use runs summer schools across the summer holidays and any spare weekends have already been booked up for 2012. I would like to apologise profusely for not messaging the venue sooner. My only excuse is that this is our first convention and we were under the impression that we were contacting them within plenty of time.

The GOOD news is:
That EACON will be running in 2013. A representative from the University of East Anglia has assured us that the month of September is open to us in 2013. Though this renders our earlier poll slightly pointless it does offer us the opportunity to not clash with conventions such as AmeCon and AyaCon as well as getting us clear of the Olympics in 2012. The member of Events staff we are in contact with is to speak with others at her office within the next two weeks and organise a booking form for us specified to what we have requested of them in terms of rooms etc. As we have not yet signed anything like this the dates and venue are only 95% certain but she has been in contact with me for a while and assures me that September should be fine. As, we're opening the convention to 16+ I have requested that we're allotted the first weekend in September in order to avoid clashing with college dates too badly (we hope). I'm waiting for a response on that one.

For those of you aware of the convention ALcon and AnimeLeague, you'll notice that this could potentially clash with Mike Towers' event. ALcon is regularly held on the first or second weekend of September and we're going to be contacting Mr Mike Towers in order to speak to him about the clash and ask if he is planning on running his convention at the end of August (there is a weekend that is the 31st of Aug and the 1st of Sep), the weekend after (which is when we'd like to run EACON) or the second full weekend in September after that. I shall let you know the results.

As it is, this is how the venue and dates are looking ^^.


Though it's disappointing to put the convention off for another year I would like to stress that this does give us more time to -
- - Request the presence of far busier and more sought after guests.
- - Advertise both the forum and the convention for longer, therefore encouraging the convention's reputation and popularity.
- - Organise a potential EACON road trip some time in the next two years.

Well I guess the extra time planning will make it an even greater event!
Still, these things can't be helped, its not as if people had booked time off from work/uni so no harm done.
Still if you need any help I and I'm sure others on here, are always ready to help!

We will probably be looking for a helping hand closer to the time so I'll keep you in mind ^^. When we advertise properly for staff be sure to put your name down if you want ^^.

Also, yes we're hoping that the extra time planning will help to make EACON the best it can possibly be ^^.

That's the spirit Tony!!! ^^ That's what I like to hear ^^. It's true. Despite the fact that we have to wait another year (which sucks) I'm actually relieved that we have a little more time because I think it'll really benefit us with the planning ^^.

Our contact at the UEA should have had her meeting with her boss to discuss EACON this week just gone. I assume it was on the Thursday or Friday as I haven't heard from her yet so I should be getting an email from her asap this week ^^.
