BASIC INFORMATION GUIDE
What is JapAnimeUK?
JapAnimeUK, or simply "JapAnime" is a community forum that allows those of similar interests (aka japanese culture and art forms) to get to know one another better and benefit from sharing knowledge and experience. You can talk about many different topics and expand many different skills such as graphic design or learning the Japanese language. Overall we simply wish to be a friendly environment and community setting for people to be the Otaku nerds they are and for those newer to the Otaku world to get it know and understand it better.
JapAnime is also the base forum for its relative convention- EACON. EACON is a UK convention being held, for the first time, in September 2013. The original aspect of this convention is that it is a convention of the fans. Not its organisers. Check out its board here for more information about how you can get involved and suggest ideas and features you would like to see at the 2013 convention.
While I, XenLár, have so far organised this forum, my co-runner AdeRin is running the website for EACON specifically. Together we hope to make the convention hugely popular.
While you're all waiting for EACON to arrive, however, there's this place to keep you going. Full of nutty and wonderful people JapAnime enourages interaction and fun in a casual environment. Provided that it follows the rules you can do whatever you like here and interact with as many people as you can. ^^
How to Use Proboards -
For those of you that have not used Proboards hosted forums before we're not just going to leave you hanging and figuring it out for yourself.
- To edit anything to do with yourself go to the Profile link at the top.
- To check out new additions to the forum there is a New Topics link in the menu bar as well as a "Last 25 posts" at the bottom on the main page. As the site gets larger however we hope that these will become slightly useless links and instead we recommend the use of the Bookmarks. If you're posting routinely on a thread then please bookmark it. To go to your own bookmarks click on Profile and select your Bookmark link. You can also deselect bookmarks so that you're not stuck with threads you're not interested in any longer.
- Another easy way for you to check threads is to go to your Profile and view your past X number of posts. You can then click on the headers of the posts (the links to the threads) to be taken to the thread you were participating in.
- For UBBC code, check the buttons above your posts and fiddle around with them. You'll soon get used to how they work.
- UBBC sizings of font work differently on this forum to how some others may. The basic 1, 2, 3 etc sizings are how the font works here-
one two three four five six seven
There is not higher setting than seven. If you type in something like twelve, you will still get the seven sizing. Different fonts, however, will be effected by these sizings slightly differently so preview your posts before your certain you want font in that size.
- This site also supports most kinds of default fonts. Please do not, however, place all your posts in Edwardian or other unreadable fonts, or we'll have a lot of members with eye strain.
- To access your personal messages please use the links that identify the number of messages you have, in the info centre on the main page of the forum or in the links under the menu bar.
Reward and Punishment -
For rules on warnings and consequences of breaking rules check the Rules thread.
Reward wise, Kudos points are initiatives on this site to do well. For more information on Kudos points please read through this thread.
The stars you see below your names are based on your post number and how active you are. The rankings follow thus:
- 0 posts = New Member
- 200 posts = Normal Member
- 800 posts = Official Member
- 2000 posts = Advanced Member
- 8000 posts = Senior Member
These, however, have nothing to do with staff rankings which are specified by the colour of a members name. Check the user legend on the main page for the colors.
Questions and Help -
Please check out our Help and Suggestions board. Our Q&A thread will be updated with problems that are placed in the board so please check there first, if your problem has not already been solved then please place a message in that board or PM a member of staff.
Security and Privacy -
This is a public forum and as such we cannot offer perfect confirmation that it is free of questionable people. Please make sure you are careful in who you talk to and if you think someone who does not belong is here, then please contact a member of staff.
With regards to Proboards, their terms and conditions are binding. They also have your email on database. However, after nearly seven years of creating and using Proboards forums I have yet to have a problem with this, and highly recommend that this does not sway you from joining.
Hidden genders, ages and emails are all viewable to the administrators of the site. However, no-one else can see them as even the senior staff are banned from seeing hidden information. This is as private as this site can be.
Image Hosting and Disclaimers -
The disclaimer at the bottom of the main page states that we have little control over what you post on this forum. However, in a court of law this would not stand and we would be held to some responsibility so please do not post anything legally damning on this forum. Let's not spoil the fun, okay? Staff will do their utmost to clear anything offensive from the site but please, let's not put it there in the first place ne?
