So, not a lot in this section, so I think a nice basic discussion would be a decent start... so let's discuss our 7 Top Anime Series or Movies
(I picked 7, cos I wanted to list more than 5, but 10 might've been too dull to read completely )
Honourable Mentions: Big O, DragonBall Z, Death Note (which I still need to lost couple of DVDs so I can finish it), My HiME, Escaflowne and a number of Ghibli movies.
So, for The Jimmeh, we have in reverse order:
7) Kiki's Delivery Service: So, first listed in a Ghibli movie. There was always gonna be at least one in here. Kiki is a favourite of mine, and don't mind admitting that, regardless of how cute it is. The first time I watched this was around Christmas a few years back with my Dad and Nan actually, and found it to be quite a touching story of a girl moving away from home, and growing up through the challenges placed upon by that. Definitely a strong story that I feel can be shown to anyone and will be enjoyed at least much as a similar story told in a live-action medium.
6) Cardcaptor Sakura: A series first enjoyed by me in it's butchered form as a kid. Managed to watch it fansubbed and in it's entirety a couple of years, and got some feelings similar to Kiki, but along with a bit more excitement from some of the cards and enemies faced in the series. Also, a series where the movies can be enjoyed on the same level as the show itself, especially #2.
5) Tsubasa Chronicles (S1&2): (I won't be discussing the OVAs as I have only seen Tokyo Revelations thus far) Another CLAMP series, and one which could be controversial due to how Bee Train added a lot of fillers in the series, and how they ended it. But as you will further down the list, I am a Bee Train fan, especially of the music they use (Yuki Kajiura/See-Saw), which in both this series and those further down, I feel has taken a decent series, and make me felt much more involved.
4) Bleach: I'm male, so obviously there had to a Shonen series here eventually. For Bleach, I will be the first to tell ya there is a lot of crap filler stories, with only the Bount being slightly watchable and a couple of parts quite dragged out (First arrival in Hueco Mundo). But when the series is good, it's very good. This pretty much applies to the first 3 series (Until the end of the Soul Society arc) and then the canon stuff leading to Hueco Mundo is watchable along with the entry to Hueco Mundo. I am especially enjoying the series that is showing now, with the battles with the top Espada, and going into the fight with Aizen. If it weren't for the filler, I would rate this much higher.
3) .hack//sign: And another Bee Train show and the one that got me properly into the anime fandom outside of popular shonen shows that had been brought to the west. This was the first anime to show more the power of BGMs in TV, as without the music, I feel the show is quite mediocre, but with it, it becomes much more powerful. And from the series, I have also got deeply into the rest of the franchise (though I still need to finish the 3rd and start the 4th PS2 games of the original series). MMOs have become particular popular in real-life, but this shows what they could potential become when backed by a massive corporation, and some faults are found. Incredibly strong characters that don't always band together due to different beliefs, but all who come to understand the dangers lurking in The World.
2) Gundam SEED/Destiny/C.E. 73: Stargazer: My first exposure to the Gundam franchise was Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network as a kid, but more recently Gundam SEED's Cosmic Era has become my preferred choice (I haven't seen a great deal of other Gundam shows though to be honest). I'll state first, this may have been higher if I could stand to re-watch Destiny, which I can't due to Shinn's whiny douchery. Outside of Shinn though, the Cosmic Era shows are a very fun series, with a lot of really good mecha designs, and enough drama that kept me hooked from episode to episode more often not. Also, I just want to mention that the Astray mangas from the Cosmic Era are even better.
And now... *drumroll* at #1 position:
1) Eureka Seven: And to start this, I will say this is not counting the recent abomination of a movie, instead this is just the show. Admittedly, not the most coherent or understandable of plots, it does avoid going as deep as Evangelion luckily. But it does give a lot of very good mecha fights as the Nirvash flies around battling numbers of enemies, while giving Eureka and Renton the chance to grow into their roles, and battle not only for the world, but for each other. A very strong set of supporting characters and adversaries help them along the way, keeping this from being just a mushy teen-angst story, and instead being a very good combination of drama, mecha action, and when needed comedy.

So, those are my top 7, and I open the floor to everyone else, though your lists don't need to have the detail I have added, just maybe some comments to help explain your choices and reasons
