When I went last year I had a great time, however, i found that there wasn't really any effort to meet people who i had met on Animeleague, not sure if that was because i was fairly new or not though. the panels were fun what I wasn't happy about is at the FAQ panel they said they would bring the age limit to 17 so 16yr olds who had attended that year would have been able to go this year, so my friends from home couldn't go cause they put the age straight up to 18, i can understand why but if you're not gonna do what you say then don't say it you know? The panels were awesome and the parties were nuts! so much fun!

Ah alcon.... It is pretty much drinking , some of the panels were cool but mostly not much worthwhile went on. Fear not on this one redfox ^^ Myself and faye found this to be the case too and have therefore made a pact to try and make the timetable as fully packed as possible with lots of things other than panels ^^ To a certain extent I agree with you here. It's going to be very difficult and near impossible to make sure that those outside of the forum will have the same experience as those inside it but we are hoping that we can at least make it fun for everyone. Crest has a friend who was worried about not being able to understand EACON etc and we're trying to work off of her worries to make sure that they don't come true, if that makes sense? b) have spent all their money and can't afford to drink at the bar Forgive me but I don't necessarily think this to be exactly true IceBlade. Don't people usually bring money to cons for food and drink and the dealer's room? If we prewarn them that they're going to have to pay for the drink then surely that should be okay?
What I may do is find out if we, as a con, are entitled to any of the money from the bar (that's not used strictly for reimbursing the alcohol), because if we are then we can put the price down on tickets to balance it out and people will be able to afford drinks.
Though it may offend some people I think they're just going to have to live with this rule but we'll probably end up making a discussion solely for that nearer the time. I completely agree with you here IceBlade. Those who aren't checking this thread aren't getting this info. However, as they're only ideas at the moment I'm trying to keep things that aren't definite out of the EACON board for fear of confusion. Once we have our venue and our dates we will be able to start setting stuff in stone and putting it in the board I promise ^^. I'm keeping track of what's going on here lidylu and going to be doing my damnedest to make sure that nothing that is said as a fact isn't carried through.
Me and faye have already decided that, if it will fit in the timetable we shall be having a feedback panel at the convention. And my guess is that it will mainly be just me and her answering Qs rather than other members of staff as, though we trust our members of staff, we don't want to put them in awkward positions of not knowing something and being forced to answer wrongly ^^. I'll also be writing done everything from that panel ^^ lol.

When I went to any con that wasn't alcon I did bring a bottle or so of my own drinks but I did always go down to the bar and splashed some money on alcohol there too, England is cheaper than Ireland for drinks, I can say that! There should be a lot of places about for people to chat with just friends, everywhere at the con thats not the bar is a main thing [imo XD;] I mean alcon itself from my experience was just the bar really :I if you wanted anything else really, it was back to your accom :<

Sorry IceBlade. Was quoting a lot an missed your points. I do apologise.
I can't really say anything for your second point here other to reiterate that we personally believe that cause an inconveniance for those who like to drink and having everyone sober-ish would normally be better than not enforcing an alcohol limit and having the con become a drinking fest. Especially how close we are to Alcon. we don't want people to get the wrong idea... :S
As for outwise bar entertainment that you both raised - fear not! me and faye have this covered as we're both non-bar like people. We plan to bring back to Manga Library that Alcon had a few years back and never continued. We also plan to continue panels quite late so that people can continue to enjoy the con without being forced into the bar ^^. We're also hoping to arrange live music acts ^^.

good ideas all of them. but oh god live music acts. this is one part of alcon that sucked, well, behind. their live music was horrible. simply unquestionably horrible. and that comes from someone who doesn't like that genre and someone who did.

Short of reviving Freddy Mercury, I doubt you're gonna find a band that everyone likes

Ain't that the truth. It's impossible to get one band that everybody will love. Hopefully we will be able, for EACON, to get more than one band that are of different genres. Here's hoping

Yeah we're going to try for GOOD bands for EACON lol. And they will be far more anime and japanese based than Alcon's attempts... :S
We have people with connections ;-) (we hope) lol.

Except, ya know, One Piece, one of the most popular series currently being released. I do believe it's ahead of Naruto and Bleach last I read.

that may be so, but their music is less popular. for a reason. why not just bring in one of the probably large number of bands that do 'covers' of popular music. As in stuff played most on radio's. it may not be particularly topical to anime but it would go over well as most people would like it. You could even have someone close to where the con will be scouting out the talent to find someone who will be decent. it would be awesome to get someone who would cover j-pop but in the uk i would have thought its impractical. Or even do an open poll until closer to the time to see what people would like as a band and look for that.

I think that this is a good idea IceBlade. Our good friend Rennie Ren may have some contacts which may be able to get us some good J bands so if and when it becomes a possibility we can put the bands in question into the poll specifically. When we have some proper dates and the venue is secure we'll be able to sort that out ^^.
