Aside from Pirates of the Caribbean, pirates have dropped out of popular culture in the last decade or so I'd say, instead being replaced by darker characters such as zombies and vampires.

So in reference to this what do people think of mine and faye's choices for our Guilds? Samurai, Sorcerers, Shinigami. Does this sound okay to you guys?

I'd still say that there while there has been a drop off of pirate films, there has been more and more interest in vampires and zombies on TV and in movies.

I realize that vamps, zombz and ninjas are popular at the moment but we wanted ours to be a little different and more culture related... and they all alliterate which we think is nice ^^.

Glad you like them Annapoo ^^
We're going to be releasing profiles of the clans and their mascots closer to the time when we have all the images and information so you'll be able to choose carefully which guild you want to be in.

My one memory of the ALcon I attended in 2009 (sadly not 2010 due to work commitments) was basically drinking with wandercrest and a few others in the bar....all the time almost. I wasn't interested too much on the panels or other events - except the cosplay auction! - but that could've been my mood at the time rather than the organisers fault (maybe).
Oh and I totally back wandercrest for Samurai leader! XD

Lol.
Well if we get the venue we want Phoenix there's plenty of places to drink if you wish, but our aim is also to make it so that there are so many panels that people don't want to hang around the bar all the time.
I went to ALcon 2009 and unfortunately I found that there seemed less to do than 2008 and even less to do this year. Possibly because they didn't change the timetable much and we'd done everything our first year... :S.

Alcon basically winds up being an expensive weekend long drinking session. Its why i've moved on to what I call...'actual cons' :> herdederp.
