I don't think it's particularly rude, unless you're there to actively steal their attendees. I mean, there were a couple of people at ALcon last year we talked to who were advertising their own conventions.
I'm also going to LFCC, so I can take some for that as well!!

Hmmm that's true. So long as we're in communication with the people who run the event, it should be fine ^^.

Good points Flawless. One of my main criticisms for the ALcon convention this year was that there wasn't enough stuff to do.
We're hoping to, as you say, have about 3 A List and 5 lesser known but still very good guests (all of whom willing to do panels). And we're gonna have loads of other panels running.
And we'll make sure to be very clear on the weapons guidelines ^^.

I would agree with the lots of panels and add in interactive panels. not just q & a but ones where you are actually doing something. I went to one last jan that had a sewing panel, which handed attendees some fabric needles and thread and then explained basic stitches and the like. then we just sat and sewed and gossiped like a knitting group and it was the best panel of the con. One guy started sewing a design sparking discussions of doing a basic embroidery panel. I know things can get expensive this way but it really was soooo much fun being able to actually put what the panel was talking about into action as it went along than going home high on idea's sparked by powerpoint, only to end up with a mess going wtf i don't know what to do.
Also something i'd love to see panels on esp since cons have a big forum following is some panels on gfxing and maybe a panel on amusing topics (off and on) in forums.Kind of like a big do and don't on panels focusing on the hilarious disasters or mistakes that people make. cause some of that could be very funny. esp if you could get people to dramatically read out the posts

I like the active panels idea - faye-san and I were really hoping to get active ones going for EACON. I agree that it can get pricey so we're going to have a go at working out which ones would be the most value to make participatory.
When it comes to the forum based panel ideas - GFX panel = easy. We were thinking of doing one anyway. The dos and donts and reading out of posts and such would have to be handled carefully for fear of offending anyone. But I don't see why, provided it's done with careful planning and the right permissions, we can't have a good laugh at something like that ^^.

From the chat thread A neko pannel. You know, cats in japanese culture, why they appear so much in anime and manga. And of course cat girls and cat boys.... Because everyone loves cats!
